„Powerline Communication” (PLC) is a technology using the 230-volts mains power supply cables for the transmission of data. PLC can be used by a network provider to deliver data services to the customer (access-PLC) or as a technology to transfer data within a house (in-house-PLC-modems).

Due to the fact that the mains power supply cabling is not shielded and has not been designed to carry high frequency currents very much energy is radiated unintentionally by the surrounding power supply network. Therefore the risk is very great that PLC will interfere with the operation of radio services.

The following examples show, that the interference to radio services may be so strong that radio reception is dramatically degraded or even impossible. The endangered radio services are – among others - the broadcasting service, security services such as the aeronautical mobile service, military radio services and the amateur service.

The examples on this site simply show the type of interference experienced by an ordinary citizen using e.g. a broadcasting receiver in the vicinity of a radiating 230-volts-network.
